IMPREGNATED ACTIVATED CARBON

Activated carbon has long been used to remove organic impurities from gases and liquids. Perhaps the first recorded use was in ancient Egypt 3500 years ago. The efficiency of activated carbon in removing contaminates is due to it's porous nature that provides a very large surface area for adsorption. Many organic contaminates are very efficiently removed, however many inorganic materials are not as efficiently removed

Impregnated activated carbons provide an additional capacity to chemically bind the targeted impurity to the impregnant. These impregnated carbons are designed to have a very high removal efficiency for the targeted impurity.

NUCON International supplies a number of specialty carbons:

MERSORB® Removes mercury to the nanograms per cubic meter level.

KINA™ Typical contaminates removed are oxides of nitrogen (NO2), sulfur compounds, acid gas, volatile organic compounds (VOC's) and other reactive compounds.

AMMOSORB™ Adsorbs ammonia, low molecular weight amines, urea, and other low molecular weight alkali vapor compounds.

NUSORB A-3 Used for gas phase adsorption of low concentrations of arsine and stibine.

FORMSORB™ This material is highly specific for the removal of formaldehyde from air.

FC-3 Removes hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from gas streams containing low oxygen (O2).

KOGC™ Removes hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and other acid gases from gas streams containing oxygen (O2).

G30 This unimpregnated carbon is used in the nuclear industry for noble gas delay.

G55 This unimpregnated carbon is used for precious metals recovery (Gold and Silver)

TEG™ Highly effective in removing radioiodine, either elemental (I2or as methyl iodide (CH3I).
