ARSINE, STIBINE ADSORBENTS Low concentrations of arsine and stibine (as well as hydrogen sulfide) are not easily removed from air by unimpregnated activated carbons. NUCON International, Inc. has developed special impregnated carbons for the removal of these compounds. NUSORB A-3 is prepared on 3 mm pelleted carbon. NUSORB A-3 has the appropriate micro and macro pore volume for high arsine and stibine removal capacity even in the presence of other chemical compounds. The impregnant acts as a catalyst and oxidizes these compounds to their oxide equivalents. The removal process works well at 0.125 second residence time in the range of 0-80% RH, although the presence of humidity increases the reaction rate. If other contaminants are present a longer residence time or unimpregnated carbon "guard beds" need to be used. NUSORB A-3 is intended for gas phase application and exposure to liquid water will lower the adsorption capacity for arsine and stibine. NUSORB A-3 is noncorrosive and, while not regenerable in-place, it can be thermally reactivated similarly to unimpregnated carbons. However, if high concentrations of arsenic or antimony are collected on the adsorbent, disposal should be according to the collected contaminants. NUSORB A-3 can be made available in other particle sizes. When only hydrogen sulfide is present consider using NUSORB KINA or KOGC. Shelf life of unopened drums of NUSORB A-3 stored in a weather protected area is five years minimum. Standard packaging is 180 lbs. net plastic lined fiber drums.
