Process Control Systems & Testing Instrumentation

Chemical Process Control Systems

NUCON is a value added reseller for the FIX-DMACS® process control software. Along with a variety of types of PLC's, it has been installed on all the Brayton cycle-based solvent recovery systems that have been supplied to industrial clients. This software enables the operator to change process variables and alarm set points, view and store operating data, and observe all the operating variables and settings on a process flow screen. NUCON personnel can communicate with the control system from the headquarters location in order to observe operations, troubleshoot and aid client personnel in optimizing the operation. NUCON provides full in-house Validation of control software when required.

Instrumentation Panels, D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant

Updated instruments were being installed for monitoring and control of the primary loop water quality at the D.C. Cook nuclear power plant. NUCON was awarded the contract to design, fabricate and startup the panels because of the broad experience in designing instrument panels and sample conditioning systems for industrial solvent recovery equipment. The Quality Assurance program qualified to 10CFR50 Appendix B requirements had resulted in NUCON being on the qualified suppliers list.

Halide Detection Instruments & Generators

Under contract to the Department of Defense, NUCON developed an instrument capable of detecting halide test gases at very low concentrations. The first use of the instrument was the testing of CBR filters to predict the adsorbent life and to insure that there were no leaks in the filter assembly. Later, the instrument was used to leak test the activated carbon filters in nuclear power plants that were used to control radioiodine. Today, this NUCON instrument is used worldwide for leak testing high efficiency adsorber banks. The range of sensitivity of the instruments is 1 part per billion to 50 parts per million, nearly five orders of magnitude. These instruments have been fully proven for field use and commercial air transportation.

 Aerosol Detectors & Generators

While there are many versions of aerosol detectors, NUCON field test personnel found that they were not rugged enough to be reliable after transportation to a field site. An instrument development project produced a rugged, reliable and accurate instrument which NUCON manufactures. They are used to leak test HEPA filters used in the nuclear, biological and electronic industries. These instruments have been fully proven for field use and commercial air transportation.
