SOLVENT VAPOR RECOVERY SYSTEMS FOR EMISSION CONTROL

EMISSION CONTROL

NUCON has designed and built a number of types of systems for solvent vapor recovery, emission control, air cleaning and air pollution control. They range from systems which are based on adsorption by activated carbon to systems that use very low temperatures to condense the solvent. Escape of hazardous materials into the atmosphere can be reduced to the level required for air pollution control. Configurations range form simple filters to complex systems which require extensive process instrumentation and control.

SOLVENT RECOVERY

NUCON has designed systems for solvent recovery that recover the solvent without adding any water or other contaminates not contained in the gas stream being treated. After solvent recovery, the gas stream, usually either air or nitrogen, can be returned to the process if desired. Solvent recovery by low temperature condensation or by carbon adsorption with regeneration by a hot inert gas will not add any contamination to the solvent that is not already present in the gas stream. These systems can be designed to safely handle toxic and flammable materials.

PROCESS DESIGN

In most cases, the process design is developed or verified in the NUCON laboratory facilities or confirmed by sophisticated process modeling. Virtually any solvent can be successfully removed from a gas stream. Previous applications have included solvents such as acetone, methylene chloride, carbon disulfide, tetrahydrofuran and many others.

While some installations used historically proven process techniques, NUCON has developed a unique process technology based on the Brayton Cycle. It has been implemented in both the BRAYSORB® and BRAYCYCLE® processes.

Successful installations have been made in many industries. For examples see "Solvent Recovery in the Pharmaceutical Industry" and "Solvent Recovery in the Medical Device Industry".

In addition to providing new systems, NUCON has upgraded and improved many solvent vapor recovery and emission control systems installed by other suppliers. The NUSORB® line of activated carbons are extensively used in adsorption systems for solvent vapor recovery and emission control to meet air pollution control requirements.
